How to check an installer is MCS certified
MCS (Microgeneration Certification Scheme) is the UK's certification standard for installers of small-scale renewable technology, including heat pumps. Every MCS-certified installer holds a certification number issued by an MCS-approved certification body (such as NICEIC or NAPIT).
You can check any installer's MCS status directly on the MCS public register — search by company name or postcode. Every badged listing on this site links straight to that installer's own MCS record, so you can verify it yourself rather than taking our word for it.
MCS certification matters for two practical reasons: it's a requirement to claim the Boiler Upgrade Scheme grant, and it means the installer's work is covered by MCS's consumer protection arrangements.
A listing on this site with no certification badge means the installer wasn't found on the MCS or GOV.UK public registers at the time of our last check — it does not mean they are unqualified, only that we could not verify it from a public source. Ask to see their certificate directly.
