Boiler Upgrade Scheme
The Boiler Upgrade Scheme (BUS) is a government grant that reduces the cost of installing certain low-carbon heating systems. Figures below are quoted directly from GOV.UK.
£7,500 towards an air source heat pump (sometimes called an air-to-water heat pump).
£7,500 towards a ground source heat pump (including water source heat pumps and those on shared ground loops).
£2,500 towards an air-to-air heat pump.
£5,000 towards a biomass boiler.
Until March 2027, an additional £1,500 towards an air source or ground source heat pump if your property is heated by oil or LPG and you do not have a mains gas connection.
The grant is paid to your installer, who deducts it from your final bill — you never handle the money directly. Your installer must be MCS-certified and registered for the scheme.
